Summary: Head and shoulders portrait wearing headdress and claw necklace at event. Native American Hall of Honor inductee. __Patrick Gourneau was born Feb. 11, 1904, in Belcourt, the son of Joseph and Liza Gourneau. He grew up and attended schools and later married Mary C. Lafavor Jan. 31, 1928, in Belcourt. He truck farmed for 23 years. He worked from 1952 to 1970 as a maintenance man at the Jewel Bearing Plant in Rolla, N.D. He was tribal chairman of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Tribe from 1953 to 1959. He spoke Chippewa, did peace pipe ceremonies and was a traditional dancer. He wrote a condensed of his achievements his name was placed in the Hall of Honors in the North Dakota Heritage Center, Bismarck, Nov. 7, 1986. Survivors are his wife, sons, Charles, Belcourt, Kenneth, Nespelem, Wash., Dewight, Rochester, Minn., and Howard, Granada Hills, Calif., daughters. Reta Eridrich, Wahpeton, N.D., Gladys Poitra, Belcourt Ladona Owen, Spokane, Wash., and Dolores Manson, Valley City, N.D; adopted son, Terrance, Bismarck; foster children. Roberta Morin and Wendell Decoteau, 30 granchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Flora Martin, Belcourt, and Zelda Elsey, Nespelem. He was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and four sisters. Summary: At some point in time the State Historical Society separated photographs into collections by size. The A collection consists of items 4 X 5” or less, the B collection consists of items 5 X 7” or less, the C collection consists of items 8 X 10” or less, the D collection consists of items 11 X 14” or less, and the E collection consists of items larger than 11 X 14”.
